DETAILS: The designation “DM2A1” identifies it as the first major production model of the postwar German DM2 torpedo family, with “Seeaal” meaning “Sea Eel.” Developed by AEG-Telefunken, it was based on the earlier experimental DM2 model from 1970 and featured 533 mm compatibility, electric propulsion via silver-zinc batteries, and contra-rotating propellers. The torpedo carried a 250 kg high-explosive warhead and used wire guidance in the initial phase, switching to passive acoustic homing in the terminal phase. Its selectable speeds ranged between 18 and 35 knots, with a maximum range of 28 km depending on operational settings.
